Questions homeowners ask us.
Pricing
How much does it cost?
Each contractor report is $85. A free 20-minute consultation comes first.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. Every customer receives a free 20-minute consultation, whether or not they order a report.
What happens in the consultation?
We talk through your project, the contractors you are considering, and what you most want checked. You can also ask us anything about the process.
When and how do I pay?
Payment is due before research begins, usually at the end of your free consultation. We email you a secure payment link. Once payment is received, we start your research.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if you request it before research begins. Once research has started on a report, that report is not refundable. See the refund policy.
What if I am comparing several contractors?
Each contractor report is $85, so two contractors is $170 and three is $255.
Getting started
When should I request research?
Ideally after you have narrowed your options and before you sign a contract or pay a deposit. It also helps when something about a contractor feels off.
What do you need from me?
The contractor's business name, your city or county, and the type of project. An estimate or contract is useful but not required.
How long does it take?
It depends on the contractor and how much public information exists. Tell us your deadline when you contact us and we will say what is realistic.
Our research
What sources do you use?
Public licensing records, business registrations, consumer complaint databases, court records where accessible, permit records where published, and online reviews.
Do you recommend a specific contractor?
No. We do not refer or endorse contractors. We give you objective information so you can make your own choice.
What if there is little information about a contractor?
Newer or smaller companies may have a thin public record. We report that clearly, and we suggest questions and documents that fill in the gaps.
Can you tell me if a contractor will do a good job?
No one can promise that. We show you what the public record says and where to look closer, which lowers the chance of surprises.
Working together
Do you help with projects of any size?
Yes. A roof, a kitchen remodel, a deck, or a new build can all benefit from a clearer picture of who you are hiring.
Is this legal advice?
No. We are not attorneys. For contract or legal questions, consult a licensed attorney in your state.
What happens to my information?
We use the details you send only to respond to your request and complete your research.
Tell us who you are thinking of hiring.
Every customer gets a free 20-minute consultation. Send the contractor's name, your city, and the kind of project, and we will reply with next steps and a time to talk. Each contractor report is $85.
